Newsflash: Tax assessment as factor in sale price (Bay Area)

We bought our home in the Bay Area (Alameda County) a year ago. The assessment came in at the sale price, as we were told it would. I recently learned that I can submit three comps to the Alameda County tax assessor and ask them to re-assess the house at a lower value, which if they granted it would give us a nice break on property tax payments.Before I even start looking for comps suitable for this purpose, I wanted to check whether there are hidden dangers to this. If it were re-assessed at a lower price, could that come back to haunt us when selling? We have no plans to sell and probably will be here for several years at minimum, maybe many years.
