A relative just had an offer fall through on their house because of a VERY suspect house appraisal. It came in 53k under what the sale price was. The appraisal was literally SO badly done it is either gross incompetence or something more nefarious. Just to give you a general idea, the basic description of the house had about 17 things completely incorrect ( including the number of baths and things that were clearly incorrect from the pictures they took themselves) and the comparables, which were dumps comparatively, were still priced at significantly higher per square than this house. The appraiser and their firm say they are not allowed to talk to my relative or their agent, which could be true. But where can they report this appraiser for some sort of license review so this doesn’t happen to other people?
